Attend the Winter Break Welcome!
All Winter Break Stay-Through residents are encouraged to wear their ugly sweaters and attend Winter Break Kickoff Brunch on Monday, December 18 at 12:00 pm at the Saxon Patio. We will be reviewing information about Winter Break and introducing all the Stay-Through residents to each other. Brunch will be provided by UCLA Residential Life.
Reminders for Stay-through Residents
Reactivate your BruinCard
All BruinCards will be deactivated at 10:00 pm on Friday, December 15, but don’t be alarmed! Your front desk will reactivate your card if you’re an approved Stay-Through resident. You can update your BruinCard any time beginning the week of 12/11, but you must do so before 10:00 pm on 12/15.
The University will be closed from Saturday, December 23 through Tuesday, January 2
In an effort to conserve energy, decrease costs to residents, and efficiently allocate resources between the Fall and Winter Quarters, the University enters a period of closure from December 23 to January 2.
Required personnel and services will stay open through this time (for example: Covel Dispatch, Maintenance, UCPD, etc.) to maintain physical plant and security measures.

If your Front Desk is not open and you need immediate assistance, remember that Covel Dispatch is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Visit Covel Dispatch on the first floor of Covel Commons or call them at (310) 206-9633 (x69633).
Winter Break Hours for Front Desks
- Sat 12/16: Close at 5:00 pm
- Sun 12/17- Fri 12/22: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
- Sat 12/23 - Tues 1/2: All Front Desks will be closed. Dispatch (Covel) will be open 24/7.
- Wed 1/3 - Thurs 1/4:8:00 am to 5:00 pm
- Fri 1/5- Resume 24-hour service at 8:00 am
Mailroom Hours
The Mail Center will be fully accessible to residents during Winter Break.

- The BruinCard Center will not be open during Winter Break. Please take extra precautions to ensure that you have your BruinCard on you at all times.
- University Police (UCPD) will operate as usual during Winter Break. In addition, the Private Security Company Access will be doing rounds throughout the hill and Residential Life staff will serve on a Duty rotation.
- If it’s an emergency, call 911.
- If it’s not an emergency, call UCPD at (310) 825-1491 (x51491).
- Select RAs will provide duty coverage throughout Winter Break to ensure safety in your building.

Maintenance on the Hill
Campus closures are the best time for UCLA Housing to perform routine maintenance, so we’ll be shutting off the water and power in a few locations at certain times during Winter Break. Security within living quarters are ensured and enforced. Building utilities (e.g. heat and water) will still be available to any residents who are affected by the maintenance work.
The maintenance and shutoff schedules are still being determined. Please be aware of signage on the floor for information about this.

Dining on the Hill
Bruin Cafe will be open during the break for students to get food. The last meal on your regular dining plan before Winter Break is lunch on Friday, December 15. The first meal for Winter Quarter 2024 will be dinner on Sunday, January 7.
All meals will be taken at Bruin Cafe, except for dinner on Friday, December 15, 2023.

ASUCLA Restaurants will be open on select days during Winter Break. Visit the ASUCLA website or download the Benefits U app on your mobile device for updated holiday hours.
Using public transportation
Campus transportation and shuttle services will be reduced during Winter Break, but larger mass transit lines are still running.
